2020's & Reprise

Approximately 900 passenger-train trips taken to date in North America, and, coincidentally, a similar number in Europe and elsewhere Overseas. From the Dominion to the Canadian, Super Continental, Ocean, Muskeg Mixed, Coast Starlight, Empire Builder, Silver Meteor, City of New Orleans, Denali Star and Durango & Silverton. From the Night Caledonian to Shakespeare Limited, Night Ferry, Rheingold, Orient Express, Sud-Expresso, Palatino, Dacia, Indian-Pacific, Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express and Nozomi Shinkansen. A unique perspective from someone in the thick of the action, personally and professionally, since the 1950's. Especially for the passenger-train rider, historian, modeller or interested observer, all free of charge.

WELCOME!

... to my passenger-train travel logs and consists. I've organized the trips into two projects: NO MATTER WHERE IT'S GOING for North America (Canadian passenger trains accounting for 88% of trips and 82% of distance; American, Mexican and Costa Rican, the rest); and LA GRANDE ALLURE for Overseas (European passenger trains during 13 holidays; Australian and Fijian, Indian and Sri Lankan, Japanese and Hong Kong, one holiday each).

I've just posted updated No Matter Where It's Going 2020's and Reprise volumes, which incorporate trips made during 2023, namely on VIA's Canadian (including both ways between Edmonton and Toronto), the usual Ontario-Quebec Corridor trains, and two tourist trains: Alberta Prairie between Stettler and Big Valley; and Wheatland Rail between Wakaw and Cudworth SK. Readers can access these two volumes under Latest above, or all volumes by means of the horizontal toolbar located both above and at the bottom of these pages. (Please note that, due to Covid-19, I made no train trips other than local LRT during 2020 and 2021; also that all other volumes also have been updated as well.)

I've made no revisions this time to the La Grande Allure volumes, which incorporate trips made during the spring of 2019: everything from a Yokohama-Osaka Nozomi Shinkansen, to the "Joyful Train" Resort Shirakami and Oigawa Steam Railway in Japan; also an East Line train to the Chinese border in Hong Kong. Readers can access all volumes by means of the horizontal toolbar located both above and at the bottom of these pages.

My intention is to continue posting further versions where necessary, including annual updates at the beginning of each new year in which there have been further travels.

Please note that these volumes are personal accounts of my passenger-train and associated road, marine and air trips, supplemented by lots of photos and other images. I hope they will appeal to those interested in the role of the passenger train in society, and the evolution of rail travel over this period. While trip purpose, references to travelling companions, and anecdotes are included, I've tried to present them in such a manner as to be easily avoidable by those looking strictly for train consists or composition.
